New Policies
No Statements Policy
The SAA is committed to fostering diverse and inclusive practices when it comes to its members, their scholarship, and programming at our annual conference. We welcome ideas for programming and member-led initiatives that result in productive dialogue. Because we recognize and respect the varied perspectives of our members, the SAA adheres to a no statement policy.
Policy on Elections Tie-Breaking
In the event of a tied result involving Trustee elections, the SAA will choose to honor the will of the voting membership by offering the two individuals involved the option to begin serving in their roles in consecutive years. Tied results for Vice President will be treated similarly, with each elected individual offered the chance to defer service to the appropriate time.
Rules about Panel Speakers
The Board of Trustees has modified SAA policy regarding rules for the frequency of appearances permitted for panelists. Beginning with proposals for panels in Atlanta in 2027, speakers will be able to appear every other year. This rule does not apply to speakers appearing on roundtables or members proposing seminars or workshops.
