CFP: Shakespeare in Spirit, ANZSA Conference
2-4 July 2025
We are very pleased to announce that the 2025 Australia and New Zealand Shakespeare Association Conference will take place in person from Wednesday, 2 July to Friday, 4 July, hosted by the University of Queensland in its Queen Street campus in the Brisbane CBD, conveniently located close to local hotels, cafes, and restaurants.
Keynote speakers will be Dennis Britton of the University of British Columbia, and Brandon Chua of the University of Hong Kong.
This year’s conference takes as its theme ‘Shakespeare in Spirit’ in all its senses in the works of Shakespeare and his contemporaries, including (but not limited to):
- Shakespeare and religion
- Shakespeare and adaptation
- Shakespeare and spiritualism
- Uncanny Shakespeare
- Race and religion in early modern Europe
- Ghosts and haunting in early modern literature
- Ritual and staging practices in early modern Europe
- Magic and the supernatural in early modern Europe
Please send proposals (250 words max.) for papers (20 mins), panels (3-4 papers of 15-20 mins each), and small workshops, with speaker biographies (100 words max. each) to Jennifer Clement [email protected] by 20 March 2025. Jennifer will also be happy to respond to questions about the conference.
