The English Department at Mount Saint Vincent University invites applications for a tenure-track position in Early Modern/Renaissance Literature, with an emphasis on Shakespeare, at the Assistant Professor level starting 1 July 2024. We are especially interested in scholarship that emphasizes global, Indigenous, and/or critical race studies, gender and sexuality, and/or adaptation in relation to the literature of the period.

The successful applicant will be able to teach courses relating to the Early Modern period and Shakespeare in particular. The ability to teach drama more broadly, for example contemporary drama, is also desirable. Candidates are encouraged to describe other, secondary areas of teaching and research interest. Documented experience and expertise in teaching undergraduate courses at all levels are assets.

Applicants should have a PhD or PhD near completion in a relevant field. For this position, the department especially seeks candidates who identify as Indigenous, Black, or as Persons of Colour.

The English Department has a dynamic undergraduate program and a strong record of excellence in teaching and research. The duties of the successful applicant will include teaching a range of literature and/or writing courses at all levels as part of a regular teaching load, maintaining an active scholarly/professional program, and participating in collegial service.
