Call for Applications: General Editor(s) of Borrowers and Lenders: A Journal of Shakespeare Appropriation
Applications are invited from Shakespeare and appropriation scholars for the post of General Editor of Borrowers and Lenders: A Journal of Shakespeare Appropriation. We seek new editors to take on this highly successful academic journal for a five-year term of office. The term begins in July 2025 and will be part of a two-person General Editor team responsible for oversight of the journal.
We are looking for an editor who will oversee this groundbreaking, open access journal as the field of appropriation studies continues to expand. We seek candidates who have a broad understanding of the development of appropriation studies since Christy Desmet’s foundational work in 1999 and are not only familiar with the growing body of theoretical approaches, but are committed to expanding the scope of the field, embracing new methodologies and inquiries from global scholars in diverse secondary fields. We seek communicative, curious, and organized individuals who can work the publisher and editorial board to ensure timely publications on a diverse range of topics. We are especially interested in applicants who have experience or interest in working with early career scholars or researchers from underrepresented backgrounds.

About Borrowers and Lenders
Borrowers and Lenders: The Journal of Shakespeare and Appropriation is a peer-reviewed, online, multimedia journal that welcomes original scholarship engaging with the afterlives of
Shakespearean texts and their literary, filmic, multimedia, and critical histories. It encourages contributors to use the online format to its best advantage, in particular, by imagining how to
enhance or illustrate their essays with multimedia. B&L won the CELJ’s “Best New Journal” Award in 2007. B&L is fully indexed in the MLA Bibliography, the World Shakespeare Bibliography, and other databases.
About the General Editor role:
The general editor(s) is/are vital to the life of Studies in Musical Theatre, to ensure the continued development and relevance of the journal.
Responsibilities of the General Editor(s)include:
● Drafting calls for articles
● Soliciting articles
● Overseeing the peer review and production processes
● Editing contributions in the house style
● Publicizing journal content
● Working with the review editors
● Coordinating with and communicating with journal’s Managing editor, ACMRS press, the editorial board members, and the authors who contribute their work to the journal
● Developing a next-stage vision for the journal
● Overseeing the progress of articles through our production pipeline, hosted on the OJS platform
● Update the board of editors on a regular basis, ensuring that the board represents senior scholarship in the field and is actively involved in the direction of the journal
Requirements of the General Editor(s):
● Excellent organization, strategic thinking, and time management skills
● Excellent communication skills
● A capacity for foresight and workload planning
● Knowledge of the field of Shakespeare appropriation
● Vision and ideas for the future of the journal
A small stipend is paid by ACMRS to the general editor(s) in a modicum of compensation for their work.
